A to Z Book Survey

Hello!

This week I decided to let you find out a bit more about my love of reading and writing. I was searching for some inspiration on my favourite blog, Paint The Roses Red, when I came across this A to Z Book Survey! I thought that it would be the perfect thing to do this fine Saturday!
This tag includes 26 questions (obviously!) about my favourite books and authors and other general questions about reading!

A - Author you've read the most books by
Probably Enid Blyton. My mum had all her books when she was younger, then passed them onto me, so I have read a lot of Enid Blyton books! My favourite books were probably Emelia Jane and all the St Claire's books.

B - Best sequel ever
When I was younger I read the Emily Windsnap books by Liz Kessler and absolutely loved them! After reading the first book, The Tail of Emily Windsnap, I went on to the read the second book in the series called Emily Windsnap and the Monster from the Deep. At the time these were my favourite books and I thought that the sequel was excellent.

C - Currently reading
I am just about to start a book called Heart of Stone by M.L.Welsh. It is the sequel to Mistress of the Storm. I really loved the first book and I have read it a few times now. Heart of Stone has been sitting on the shelf for a while now and I am so excited to start reading it!

D - Drink of choice whilst reading
Definitely a cup of tea in my big Minnie Mouse mug!

E - E-reader or physical book
Physical book! I do have a Kindle Fire and occasionally I read a book on it, however I much prefer to read a physical book. I love the smell of a new book and the feeling of satisfaction with a hint of sadness when you finish the book and close the back cover.

F - Fictional character you would have a crush on
I'm really not sure! Maybe a character named Tarnie from Little Beach Street Bakery because he had a really lovely personality and he loved to read.

G - Glad you gave this book a chance
It would have to be Mistress of the Storm by M.L.Welsh. Over a year ago I picked this book up in the library and then loved it so much that I had to get a copy for myself! When I saw it on the shelf it wasn't one that I would usually pick up, but I thought that I would give it a go and I am so glad that I did!

H - Hidden gem book
My hidden gem is The Remarkable Life and Times of Eliza Rose by Mary Hooper. The book is about a girl called Eliza Rose who gets kicked out of her home by her stepmother so makes her way to London to find her father. You follow her as she lives her life in London, meeting new people and going to different places. I love Mary Hooper books as she has a lovely style of writing and produces amazing stories!

I - Important moment in your reading life
It is hard to pick one specific moment, however I am going to say when my Grandparents bought me a box set of all the Harry Potter books. I was so excited as I had never read any of the books before and the smell of all seven new books in the box is so amazing!

J - Just finished
Little Beach Street Bakery by Jenny Colgan. This is the first Jenny Colgan book that I have read and I loved it! This book is a simple story about how a woman named Polly opens a bakery. I really enjoyed reading it and I didn't want it to end! I will certainly be reading more Jenny Colgan books in the future!

K - Kinds of books you won't read
I don't tend to read science fiction books as they sometimes freak me out a bit and I don't really enjoy them.

L - Longest book you've read
I'm really not sure! The one which springs to mind is Anne of Green Gables which was 378 pages long, however I am sure that I have read a longer one than that before! On my reading list is A Hundred Pieces of Me which is 516 pages long.

M - Major book hangover because of
I think it would have to be Silence/Broken Silence by Natasha Preston. I read these two books on my Kindle Fire in one day and then refused to touch another book for nearly a week! I got so attached to the characters and just loved the story so much. I am definitely going to read these books again soon.

N - Number of book cases you own
Just the one!

O - One book you have read multiple times
I think I have read Ballet Shoes by Noel Streatfeild more than any other book. This book is very old, yet it has always been one of my favourites. I remember reading it for the first time and falling in love with the story and the three main characters. I have read it so many times and I know that I will never get bored of reading it.

P - Preferred place to read
Definitely on my window seat!

Q - Quote that inspires you from a book you've read
"It's been my experience that you can nearly always enjoy things if you make up your mind firmly that you will." - Anne, Anne of Green Gables, L.M.Montgomery.

R - Reading regret
My reading regret is The Secret Countess by Eva Ibbotson. I don't regret picking the book up off the shelf as I had heard about the author and I really wanted to read one of her books, however when I read it I was a little bit disappointed. I usually enjoy those kinds of books, but with this one I never really connected with the characters and I found myself flicking back to previous pages as I kept forgetting what had happened.

S - Series that you started but still need to finish
I have read the first two books in a series by Mary Hooper and I am yet to read the third. The first book was called At the House of the Magician and the second was called By Royal Command. The book which I am yet to read is called The Betrayal. I do not own the book so I am looking out for it at the library.

T - Three of your favourite books
This is so difficult! I have so many favourites! However, I think I am going to say Anne of Green Gables by L.M.Montgomery, The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett and Ballet Shoes by Noel Streatfeild. These are just three of my all time favourite books!

U - Unapologetic fangirl for
Old classics. I love reading classic books such as Little Women, The Secret Garden and Black Beauty. I don't know why it is as some people find it hard to read that style of writing but personally I think that it is lovely.

V - Very excited for this release more than others
At the moment I'm not actually waiting on a book release as I already have a long reading list and I am always buying new books from shops!

W - Worst bookish habits
I think my worst habit is carrying the book that I am reading around with me pretty much everywhere I go. You never know when you might need to read! The problem is that I always end up reading it at inappropriate moments such as at a party or at a family gathering. Also, if I am reading a big book then it tends to make my bag unnecessarily heavy...

X - X marks the spot! Start at the top of your shelf and pick the 27th book along
I have been so excited for this! Mine is The Twins at St Claire's by Enid Blyton.

Y - Your latest book purchase
Recently I bought two books from Waterstones. The first one I picked up is called Forbidden Friends by Anne-Marie Conway and the second book is called Emily Climbs by L.M.Montgomery. I picked the second book up because of the fact that it is written by the same author who wrote Anne of Green Gables!

Z - Zzz snatcher book - a book that keeps you up late at night
When I read Broken Silence by Natasha Preston I ended up staying up really late just so I could finish the book. I couldn't put it down!

I really enjoyed coming up with the answers to my A to Z Book Survey and I hope that you enjoyed reading them!

Keep sweet!
Bethany x
